Out Played....
Its not often you hear poker players (especially me) saying "I got out played". Last night I did, as much as it hurts to admit it :)

Us new guys...
I wasnt aware that I was part of a herd, an influx, a veritable deluge of new players ready to wash over the world of poker. I just wanted a game of cards.

WTF? Poker In Walsall....
As some of the esteemed readers of this site will know I have a bit (only a bit) of a life outside of the Fitz and PS/VC. Part of that involves me going back to school to learn very boring stuff relating to work.

The kid(s) done good...
I wandered along to the Student poker championships which were open to all comers (more or less) just to write a report on it and to see how it was run. There had been a lot of negative speculation about the way it might go because of some recent rather unsavoury rip off merchants and money making rackets posing as poker tournies. International high stakes poker dealer and man of mystery.
About 6 weeks ago I got a call to see if I could find a few people to deal a charity game of poker in Belfast. Envisaging grannies huddled round pub tables I reckoned we could do it no problem. Cash in hand, accomodation provided, travel costs covered... sweet! Amp and Madsl from Boards.ie agreed to help. Grand job. Easy money....

I am the Garfield of poker...
...I cling on desperately by my nails (and love lasagne, though thats hardly relevant).
Played my favourite tourney last night, the Sunday 20-in. I know everyone always goes on about the Monday 100 game and the 50+50 Friday game but no tourney has been kinder to me then the 20-in, and I enjoy the banter and fun too. In the end of the day I play poker for two reasons, to win and to enjoy myself and I find I do both more often in the 20-in.

All in a day's work...
So, I managed to get Friday off work but the boss warns me and every other dealer to be in on Saturday as there is a big charity game on and loads of players are expected from the north, plus we have to run our usual Saturday tourney too. Great. One long night of floor work most likely. So I'm standing at registration helping the boss man to sort out seats and what not when he gets a call from a well known big stakes player who is held up and cant make the game. He wants Luke to put a player in for him, someone steady who might make the money. None can be found so Luke looks at me and says "you want to play?"...
